I just wanted to post this so it was in the knowledge base. These Realtek chips are very prevalent on today's motherboards. To have them not function properly after a Windows Update could be a sizeable problem for the user base. So, in summation, there's a bad problem with the latest Realtek 64-bit drivers. But since the NIC devices now work, maybe it's actually a problem with the way Windows 7 tried to update those devices? Realtek RTL8168C(P)/811C(P) 64-bit Windows 7 Drivers in Windows Update do NOT work. I just got my Windows 7 Ultimate edition installed on my PC. Everything worked great from the 64-bit Windows 7 install DVD. I was able to get online, get some updates and I decided to update the NIC drivers with the latest ones on Microsoft's Windows Update. The drivers didn't install properly, they failed, they wouldn't install no matter what I did. I was left without network connections from both ports on the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard. I downloaded the 64-bit drivers direct from Realtek's site, Windows 7 rejected them saying the drivers were already up to date. Then I had to force an Uninstall of both NIC devices #1 and #2 in the list under Network Adaptors. Then I went up to Action > Scan For Hardware Changes in the Device Manager menu and bam, both ports work again, although they are now showing up as #4 and #3 . which isn't exactly correct. I had to go into the Device Manager (which is too burried in my opinion) by this path Control Panel > All Control Panel Items (selected from the top bar of the control panel) > Device Manager.
